Following on from the recent LIH/CaHRU Motivational Interviewing course delivered by Charlotte Hilton a member of MINT: the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (https://motivationalinterviewing.org/profile/charlottehilton), LIH PhD student Hayley organised a second knowledge sharing event with University colleagues – thank you Hayley! During this session we had a re-cap of some of the core skills of MI – Spirit and OARS (open questions, affirmations, reflective listening and summaries) with some role play to practise our newly developed skills with colleagues from across the University. There was some great discussion around theories of behaviour change, the historical origins of MI and how we can apply MI in different contexts (i.e. research, mentoring, supervision etc). Moving forward we are hoping to bring together colleagues with an interest in MI to develop some University resources for all to access. It was great to see so much enthusiasm and we are all really looking forward to developing our expertise in this area!
